Specific Claims Negotiations

In 1982, the federal government introduced "Outstanding Business", a policy to address the outstanding claims of First Nations concerning the administration of lands and other assets and the fulfillment of Treaty obligations. We represent a number of First Nations in their negotiations with the Crown in the Specific Claims process in claims relating to unfulfilled Treaty promises and encroachments on reserve lands. We also provide legal advice in the preparation of Specific Claims and have represented First Nations in claims before the Indian Claims Commission in inquiries into Claims that have been rejected under the Specific Claims policy.
